Devotion to Saint James and the saints is rooted in humanity's relationship with the sacred. Faced with fundamental questions of existence, humanity has developed philosophical and religious beliefs. The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela belongs to the Christian tradition, but its resurgence is a reaction to the excesses of our individualistic, hyper-technological, and ultra-consumerist society.
